Terry Melcher
Doris Day’s son; record producer and collaborator with The Beach Boys.
Manson and Tex were very well acquainted with 10060 Cielo Drive; the home of Terry Melcher and his girlfriend Candice Bergen. They visited on many occasions. The gate buzzer where the infamous bloody thumbprint was found had been pushed by Tex before.
It was Manson’s rage against him for ‘stealing’ his song “Cease to Exist” that was the basis for the home chosen for the slaughter on Cielo Drive.
In fact, Manson went to that house to confront Melcher about the song the very night before the murders, and was ejected by the friends of the new residents, Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate.
“Kill everyone there” were Manson’s orders for the next night.
